FBCL Church Covenant
We, being led by the Holy Spirit to repent and believe in Jesus Christ as Lord and
Savior, and having been baptized upon the profession of our faith in the name of the
Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, do now, in the presence of God and this assembly, most
solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another before God as one body in
Christ.
We commit, by the help of the Holy Spirit, to walk together in Christian love with all
humility, gentleness, and patience, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the
bond of peace, watching over one another in brotherly love, remembering one
another in prayer, aiding one another in sickness and distress, cultivating Christian
sympathy in feeling, and courtesy in speech, and being slow to take offense, always
ready for reconciliation and mindful of our Savior’s instruction to secure it without
delay.
We also commit to strive for holiness in all of our conduct, resolving not to love the
world or to be conformed to it, but rather to put to death that which is earthly in us,
namely sexual immorality, homosexuality, impurity, evil desires, covetousness, or
any other idolatry, greed, drunkenness, sinful anger, malice, slander, lying, and any
other obscene talk from our mouths, and putting on the new self, which is being
renewed into the image of its Creator.
We further commit to strive for the advancement of this church in knowledge and
holiness through diligent prayer, by not forsaking the corporate assembly of the body,
through sustaining its worship, ordinances, disciplines, and doctrines, and through
serving the body by contributing cheerfully, sacrificially, and regularly with our gifts,
talents, time, and treasures to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the
church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the gospel to all nations.
We moreover commit to make disciples of all nations, maintaining personal and
family devotions, bringing up our children in the discipline and instruction of the
Lord, and seeking the salvation and spiritual growth of our families, our friends, and
our acquaintances until all hear the good news of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Finally, we commit that if we ever leave this church, we will, if possible, unite with a
likeminded church where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the
principles of God’s Word.
